Nature writing:
not just for the birds.

How rare is it to see one of the most endangered birds in the world—in the wild? And how much rarer still is it that we are seeing success in trying to save it? This good-news story about the little-known Puerto Rican parrot found a home in Audubon magazine, where the themes of conservation and a rare bird were a perfect match.

Good nature writing is part travel writing, with a strong sense of place and setting.

But it’s also just good writing, with a strong sense of story, a timely hook, interesting characters, a knowledge of subject, and keen observation.

Finally, it’s an understanding of the past, a commitment to the future, and an appreciation of the eternal.
